Literature Text
the funny thing about
humans is that
we think we are
invincible and immortal
gods.
no—
we're all
roadkill,
living in
a tainted world
where cars drive
too damn fast.
and me,
well,
i just try to
get by without
being hit
more than once.
Literature
You asked for dark poetry.
i will never
be nice
to my enemies.
i will devour them all.
slowly.
methodically.
with a fork.

Death isn't a fresh perspective
I saw my mother
swallowing something small
when I was just a child
The anguish in her eyes
faded, as she told me
it was just a
tic-tac,
with a little extra kick
maybe years later,
that's how I convinced
myself
to swallow fifteen,
thinking it'd
give me a fresh perspective;
in the end,
my breath reeked
of death
instead of mint.

The Girl Who Was Afraid To Be
She speaks to me fondly
of passions and talents,
of guitars and stars,
with such breathless intensity
then stops short and
apologises
for speaking at all.
All because somewhere in her life,
someone she loved broke her heart
by ignoring
her beautiful words
and telling her to
shut up,
keep it down,
nobody cares.
People aren’t born sad.
We make them that way.

I gave myself the challenge of only writing stanzas comprised of 15 words each. This was the outcome. I quite like it, though it's a bit cynical. Oh well.
Titles are hard.
Sometimes harder than writing the actual poem.
